Japan Dinner Show
Client:
Akao Resort Dukedom
Background:
Resort hotel in tourist town famous for its 'Sun Beach' and hot springs. One of the most famous and historic hotels in the Shizuoka prefecture.
Event:
"World Magic Show" – Dinner Show
Location:
Atami, Japan
Audience:
100-500 Guests Per Show
Problem:
To find a "foreign" magician who could perform a fast-paced 20 minute illusion show for non-English speaking audiences. They required an entertainer who could maintain the same level of enthusiasm and professionalism, night after night, over several months.
The chosen entertainer was also required to have enough close-up and interactive material to perform an additional nightly 25 minute "lounge show" for hotel guests.
Outcome:
Sheldon learned about the culture and local customs of his audience. He incorporated aspects of the Japanese language into the show and selected appropriate music and body language to effectively communicate and connect with his audience. Sheldon customized his show with the venue and audience in mind.
For a period of 6 months in 2005, Sheldon performed 2-3 shows nightly, 7 days per week. Capitalizing on the energy of his youthfulness, Sheldon was able to maintain a high energy level throughout the contract. After completing a successful run of 414 performances, Sheldon was invited to return for an additional 3 months in 2006; bringing the number of shows to over 630!
China Tour
Client:
Youth Singers of Calgary
Background:
Performing arts troupe from Calgary, Alberta, Canada that offers young people a chance to sing, dance, and act in a professional setting.
Event:
China Legends Tour
Location:
China – Beijing, Shiziahuang, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shanghai
Audience:
Varied Depending on Theatre Capacity (~1000-3000 people per show)
Problem:
After receiving an invitation from the Chinese Government to perform across China, the Youth Singers were looking for a guest act for their show. They needed to find a reliable and professional guest act who could travel with props as checked baggage, entertain a non-English audience, and customize their performance to fit within designated segments of an existing show.
Outcome:
Sheldon customized his magic performances to fit the requirements of his client. He designed his magic to pack small and play BIG. By tailoring his magic to fit the language and cultural barriers of his audience, Sheldon's performances were widely accepted by the Chinese audiences.
By performing in front of the curtains for select portions of the show, Sheldon successfully kept the audiences entertained for the duration of set and costume changes. Working one on one with the show's directors, Sheldon was also incorporated into the show's larger production numbers, providing a unique and magical addition to the show.
"His outstanding performances in large theatres in major cities of China including Beijing and Shanghai, were enthusiastically accepted and applauded by Chinese audiences. Sheldon is exceptionally bright, very personable and multi-talented. He demonstrates perseverance, energy and a high degree of professionalism in bringing his work to successful completion. Without hesitation, I am very pleased to add my personal endorsement of Sheldon as an exceptional and gifted individual."

Festival of the World's
Client:
Festival of the World's
Background:
The nightly outdoor cultural component of the 8th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, consisting of national and international talent.
Event:
8th IAAF World Championships in Athletics
Location:
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Audience:
25,000 People
Problem:
Due to the length and scale of the show, the organizers had to find an entertaining solution for transitions between the show's main stage musical acts. The chosen entertainer had to captivate an audience of 25,000 people for the duration of each set change.
Outcome:
After being selected to perform, Sheldon rose to the challenge by customizing three 5-7 minute segments of his stage show. Each segment maintained the audience's attention by utilizing a JumboTron video wall to project his interactive sleight of hand magic to the audience of 25,000 people.
"During each of his 3 presentations, Sheldon delighted our audience with his adroitness and performance maturity that belies his age. His enthusiasm for the event, and the professionalism with which he carries himself also earned him the respect and friendship of all of us involved with mounting Festival of The World's. Sheldon is a hardworking young man dedicated to improving his craft, and I am sure that a bright future awaits him. I heartily encourage you to engage his services for your event."
